This project involved the structural design of an ultra-modern sports and entertainment facility. Scope included the structural design of this facility. This 18,500-seat facility, located in the power and Light District of Downtown Kansas City is one of the catalysts that revived the ailing downtown. This complex has six locker room and training facilities, multi-event capability (for sports, family and dirt shows) as well as administrative facilities. It also contains food and kitchen amenities, clinical and childcare facility. There are six bays of loading dock and vehicle maintenance facilities, five-star dressing rooms, team family rooms and 15 box office windows.
In total there are approximately 139,932 square feet of double insulated glass and 53,820 square feet painted aluminum curtain wall panels. In addition, there are roughly 200 tons of system profiles and accessories. All of the 2,404 individual glass units on the main building were produced sequentially and completely assembled prior to shipping (from Hong Kong).
Premier Engineering Consultants was retained as a sub-consultant by the primary structural engineer. Premier Engineering staff participated at all levels of design and drafting to complete this twelve month’s task. The latest building codes including the most current seismic provisions of the codes were used to complete the design. Value Engineering was conducted to determine the most optimal design solutions.
